Patrick Vieira has confirmed he will try to ‘improve’ his Crystal Palace side during the upcoming January transfer window.
The Eagles have spent over £ 60million over the summer to bring in permanently Odsonne Edouard, Marc Guehi, Michael Olise, Will Hughes and Joachim Andersen. South Londoners have also added Conor Gallagher on a one-season loan from Chelsea.
Palace has been linked with Orlando City forward Daryl Dike, who South London Press exclusively revealed in August was on their radar, and Borja Mayoral, who is currently on loan to AS Roma from Real Madrid.
“It’s really hard to find players at this time of year,” Vieira said when asked about Palace’s plans for the winter window.
“We are going through a difficult time to identify players because of other situations.
“We are working and we will try to improve the team. But again, we will only bring in players if they improve the team. “
Wilfried Zaha (Ivory Coast), Jordan Ayew (Ghana) and Cheikhou Kouyate (Senegal) have all been called up to their respective countries’ preliminary squads ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, with the tournament starting on January 9.
However, there are reports Ayew is due in Doha on Monday ahead of Black Stars training camp in preparation for the tournament.
Asked if all of the players selected for CAN will be in his plans ahead of Sunday’s trip to face Antonio Conte’s Spurs, Vieira said: “There are discussions going on so it is difficult for me to tell you what will be the result.
“There are discussions going on between us and the Senegalese and Ghanaian national teams as to which day is best for them to have the players.”
